Local
farmers have a long history of working together to support each other
and promote the best in Surrey agriculture. The present society is an
amalgamation of the Surrey Agricultural Association, formed 178 years
ago in 1829, and the Redhill Agricultural Society, founded in 1862. Its
members are drawn from many different walks of life, their common
interest: rural Surrey.
The
society runs the annual Surrey County Show at Stoke Park Guildford in
May, plus farm, countryside stewardship and crop competitions and the
Surrey Farm and Village Week in September, culminating in the County
Ploughing Match and Country Fair at Loseley Park.
The
first combined society Surrey County Show was in 1954.
The
objectives of the Society are: the encouragement of agriculture and
agricultural employees in their various crafts and to promote good
farming. The advancement of breeding and rearing of
livestock and horses and to maintain the public’s interest in the
Agricultural Industry generally within the county.
The
President of Surrey County Agricultural Society is the Rt Hon The Earl of Onslow.
