Historic Farmland Landscape of the Surrey Hills
These two ideas go together brilliantly and this project will help you get started. It’s fun, do-able and enormously rewarding, with potential for leaflets, information boards, fliers, guided walks, school visits and more. This initiative, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, gives farmers, landowners and people like you, involved in Surrey’s beautiful countryside, the tools to uncover its history and heritage. The aim is to enable them to build up a picture of their area which can then be used to market the link between food production and the landscape. Starting in spring 2006, the project, organised by Surrey County Agricultural Society, held a series of training days led by professional landscape archaeologist Nicola Bannister and economist Debbie Bartlett. Notes on these training days, backed up by information sheets, are available on this website for people to use whenever they want. Your research will involve both practical fieldwork and the use of documents and maps. Help and guidance on how to do it is provided here.
