This very special show takes place at Loseley Park, between Godalming and Guildford, on September 28th at the end of Surrey Farm and Village Week. With a lovely relaxed atmosphere, it draws crowds of around 10,000 for a fantastic country day out for the whole family.
If you love machinery, the modern and vintage tractors are magnetic and for wallowers in nostalgia for the slower pace of yesteryear, the magnificent teams of heavy horses are a powerful attraction. The skill of the ploughmen, whether using horses or tractors, is simply magical to watch. Look out for the steam demonstration too and an aerobatics display and new this year is a demonstration of horse-logging by a team of Clydesdales.
This is very much a show for dog lovers too. The English National Sheepdog Association is running One Man and His Dog style sheepdog trials, working flocks of sheep on the sloping fields in front of Loseley, which creates a wonderful spectacle. There will also be Terrier racing, gun dog training, obedience coaching, display of hounds and agility competitions so that dogs big and small get a share of the limelight.
For youngsters who love action, the show provides fantastic introductions to country pursuits, from fly fishing to tractor driving, 4x4 handling to clay shooting.
Food produced and grown on Surrey farms is a strong feature at the show. There is a Farmers Market and there are excellent shopping opportunities for arts and crafts.
Countryside organisations such as the Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group, Surrey Wildlife Trust, the Surrey Hills Partnership and the Surrey Rural Stress Initiative will be represented at the show.
